Carmelo, Uruguay Travel Information

Carmelo, Uruguay is a small town (population 16,866) on the Parana River Delta with a lovely main square and basic tourist facilities. It is a short 2-hour ferry from Carmelo to Tigre, Argentina. There is a park with camping on the river just outside the town but the most popluar place to lay ones head at night is the Four Seasons Resort. The hotel has a spa, pool, tennis courts, professional golf course and can arrange for horseback riding lessons and tours.

If you are the betting type, there is a casino – Casino Carmelo – at the hotel with one of its investors reportedly Bill Gates of Microsoft, Corp. You never know who you may run into on the streets of Carmelo.
