Across the street from Plaza del Lago (Lake Plaza) is Teleférico - the entrance to a 15 minute gondola ride (see photo below) up to the top of the San Bernardo Mountain with 360 degree views of the city of Salta and surrounding area below.     View Photos of Salta

Open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the ride costs only 20 pesos ($4.89 USD). There is a staircase for the more active tourist to climb up or down, with areas to exercise and do pull-ups, push-ups or whatever your engerized heart desires – locals use the area like a free gym!

Walking up will take approximately 40-50 minutes. The upper area has terraced gardens complete with man-made waterfalls, a restaurant with panoramic views and outside or indoor seating plus shops selling ethnic clothing, jewelry and crafts.
