Any info you supply on buying in Ecuador is appreciated
Hi Patrick, check out this How To Buy Property in Ecuador article: http://www.southamericaliving.com/living-in-ecuador-how-to-buy-real-estate/.
Beautiful country, best of luck! Molly
My husband and I are in our 60′s we would like to retire there seems there is less red tape than Colombia and cheaper.I was born and raised in Bogota.
We are thinking of Quito live near city limits where its feasable for us to get around.who do we contact as far as hotel and inquiring on renting and etc?
Hi Sonia, definitely less red tape – though I have no idea the residency requirements for Colombia at this time (will do an article at a later date!) I do know that Ecuador is especially easy for those who have $25,000 to invest or more… you then get automatic residency status when applying (not sure about exceptions but I think are few and far in-between).
Check out our recent ‘Cost of Living in Quito’ article – has info on apartments, house rentals, where to buy, etc. and also check out our Cotacachi, Ecuador – Cheap Place to Live article… both links below. Best, Molly

HI MOLLY,
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH IN REPLYING,I SUPPOSE YOU LIVE IN ECUADOR,MY HUSBAND AND I
WILL BE DOING A STOP OVER AND CHECK IT OUT PRIOR TO GOING TO COLOMBIA TO VISIT FAMILY. AS FAR AS COLOMBIA I HAVE AN ID SO ITS FEASEABLE FOR ME TO PURCHASE,
BUT WE REALLY THINK RENTAL IN ECUADOR WILL BE WISE.
I DO NOT SEE ANY PHOTOS OF HOUSES OR APTSFOR SALE OR RENT IN THE COMPUTER. I JUST SUBSCRIBED TO SOUTH AMERICAN LIVING.
AGAIN THANK YOU,
SONIA
Renting is very smart to start and there are great deals all throughout the country. Half the price in the U.S. depending on where you live in the U.S. or Canada… or Australia…
One thing you do need to know if that Ecuador only allows 180 days year on a Tourist Visa. You cannot stay in the country longer without applying for a resident visa, or other. Something to know and plan for. Check our visa page for basic info.
I don’t do rental listings, would be really impossible to manage and far to time consuming… much better to go to a real estate office, look in local papers, etc. to find one after you decide where you would like to live.
I do give some leads on rentals when I can on the Cheap Places to Live pages, as those are specialized for folks relocating to the area.
Best, Molly
