Hundreds of Volunteer Opportunities in South America

Many Endangered & Protected Species Need Your Help

Editor’s Note: This is a guest article by Volunteer Latin America.

Volunteer Latin America is an information gateway to hundreds of environmental and humanitarian organizations throughout Central and South America that offer free and low cost volunteering opportunities.

The environmental projects we offer are as varied and interesting as you might imagine, ranging from Permaculture to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

We also give volunteers the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of humanitarian work such as child welfare, community development, education and health programmes.

Free volunteer opportunities in South America include:

  • a Penguin Research project in Chile that provides free accommodation (volunteers help conduct daily observations of penguin nests).
  • an Eco Camp in Venezuela that provides free accommodation and food (volunteers help with guiding and planting trees).
  • an orphanage in Peru that provides free accommodation and some meals (volunteers help enrich the lives of children and families).
  • a Tropical Forest Reserve in Ecuador that provides accommodation and some meals (volunteers help reforestation efforts, integrated pest management, small animal husbandry, etc).
  • If You Can - Lend Out a Helping Hand in South America. Join the Millions Making the World a Better Place

  • a guesthouse in Bolivia that provides free accommodation (volunteers help run the hostel).
  • and an organic farm in the heart of the Patagonia (Argentina) that provides free camping (volunteers help out in the gardens and with construction projects).

Some projects charge a small participation fee to cover the cost of hosting volunteers (i.e. accommodation, food, materials, etc). On average this amounts to $250 USD per month.

Projects vary in length from one week up to a full year. Most of the projects we offer are from one month to three months, however there are opportunities to volunteer for shorter or longer periods of time.

We help hundreds of grassroots organizations find people willing to help them achieve their objectives. Without the support and committment of volunteers many of these organizations would be unable to carry out their vital work.

We also inform volunteers about language schools if they are interested in learning Spanish or Portuguese as part of their trip.
