Esquel, Argentina to Futaleufú, Chile Border Crossing

The border crossing from Esquel, Argentina to Futaleufú, Chile is a piece of cake, as they say. A bus ($25 USD) – or taxi (for a group of four approximately $40 each) – from the bus terminal in Esquel takes approximately 1 1/2 hours to reach Argentine Immigrations – the first checkpoint.

That bus – or taxi – then bites the dust back to town and leaves you stranded. Just kidding. You do, however, need to enter the Immigration or checkpoint office to be approved to continue on and then either walk the 400 feet / 10 minutes on the bumpy, dirt-paved road there or board a shuttle that will take you (and your luggage, phew).

Once you have arrived at another pencil-pushing, folks in uniform Immigration office found the world over – it is the usual filling out of forms, flashing passports then you are on your way. Futaleufú (another bus or taxi to the small town) – white water rafting and kayaking haven – here you come!

Futaleufu River, Patagonia

It is highly unlikely you will have become stressed-out during this leg of your journey, but if the unexpected does occur, keep your eyes to the right when heading north, or left when heading south. The deep, blue waters of Rio de Futaleufú (Futaleufu river) will be sure to soothe your agitated nerves.
